Monte cristo sandwiches
Recipe by
Loaf of Italian, French, or Challah bread
3 whole eggs + 3 egg whites
1/4 cup skim milk
1 1/2 - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Sliced ham (approximately 2 slices/sandwich)
Sliced cheese - Muenster, American, Monterey Jack (1-2 slices/sandwich)
Maple Syrup
1. Cut the bread into 3/4" to 1" thick slices.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon until combined (the cinnamon tends to float to the top).
3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and coat pan with cooking spray or butter.
4. Dip slices of bread into egg mixture until well coated.
5. Place bread on skillet and cook on each side for a few minutes or until lightly browned.
6. Place a slice of cheese and 2 pieces of ham on half of the pieces of bread (the bottom half of the sandwich).
7. If desired, put another slice of cheese on the ham. Top with a second piece of bread.
8. Warm on the skillet for another minute or so, flipping the sandwich once to finish browning the bread and melting the cheese.
9. Serve with maple syrup for dunking. Enjoy!
