Apple pie (non-traditional)
Recipe by4 large free-range eggs
400g (2 cups) white sugar
45ml butter, melted
125ml full-cream milk
salt and ground white pepper, to taste
120g (1 cup) cake flour
3 granny smith apples
sauce
1 x 410g tin Ideal Milk
190ml sugar
seeds of 1 vanilla pod
2,5ml cinnamon
Prep. Time → 30 min
Cook Time → 135 min
1. Preheat oven to 180C
2. Mix together eggs and sugar. Add butter, milk and seasoning
3. Sift flour 3 times and, using wooden spoon, stir little by little into sugar mixture
4. Put batter into greased bowl
5. Cut apples into discs, leaving the skin on but removing the seeds. Press apples into batter until batter is full of apples
6. Bake in oven for 30min then reduce temp to 150C until pie is cooked, about 1 hour and 30min
7. Sauce:
place ingredients in saucepan and warm through
8. After removing tart from oven pour over sauce and serve hot
