1. Melt 1 cup sugar in heavy skillet until brown. Cook over low heat and do not stir until melted. Pour in 2 cups milk. Cook until browned sugar is dissolved. Mix 1 cup sugar with 6 heaping Tbsp. flour. Pour this into 2 cups milk, 4 beaten egg yolks. Place this mixture into browned sugar mixture, cook until thick. Add 1 Tbsp. butter, 2 tsp. vanilla and pour into baked pie shell. Beat egg whites until stiff, add sugar, vanilla and place on pies. Brown. Makes 2 8” pies.
