Hillbilly Spaghetti Pie of Karyn Johnson - Recipefy

1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground sweet italian sausage
1/2 cup onion, chopped
2 tbsp olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1-28 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3 tbsp italian spaghetti seasoning
2 cups water
8 oz thin spaghetti, broken into thirds
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup fresh Parmesan cheese, grated
2 cups grated mozzarella cheese

1. In a large cast iron skillet, or ceramic Dutch oven, heat oil and saute onions for about 5 minutes. Add beef and sausage, brown over medium-high heat. Drain grease, add garlic and spices.

2. Once completely browned, stir in crushed tomatoes and water. Add broken spaghetti, pushing it into liquid, cover for 5 minutes. At this point stir pasta so noodles won’t stick together. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 6 more minutes until pasta is al dente.

3. Add Parmesan cheese and cream, stir well. Sprinkle top with mozzarella cheese, put in oven to broil until spotty brown.

4. (Can add fresh mushrooms while browning meat.) optonal
