Meat and potato pie
Recipe by225g short crust pastry
450g steak
1 large onion
1 bay leaf
2-3 potatoes
salt and pepper
1tbsp cornflour or gravy powder
Prep. Time → 20 min
Cook Time → 190 min
1. Chop and fry the onion in a large saucepan
2. Add the meat and brown
3. Add the bay leaf and seasoning
4. Cover with water and simmer for 2-2 1/2 hours
5. Peel and cut the potatoes into 1 inch pieces cook for about 5 minutes using some of the stock from the meat
6. Drain the potatoes reserving the stock
7. Add the meat and potatoes to a deep pie dish adding only a little of the stock
8. Roll out the pastry and cover the dish making a hole in the center to let out steam (you may want to add a egg or milk glaze)
9. Cook pie in the oven at 190c for 30-35 minutes
10. Thicken the unused stock with the cornflour or gravy powder to make a gravy to serve with the pie
