Steak and onion pies.
Recipe by
1 oz of butter
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1lb of braising steak, cut into strips
1 onion, sliced
8 oz of mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons of plain flour
4 tablespoons of beef stock
7fl oz of stout
1 tablespoon of mixed dried herbs
500g pack of puff pastry
1 egg, beaten
Prep. Time → 20 min min
Cook Time → 1hr 40min min
1. Fry the beef in the butter and half the oil
for 5 min.
Spoon into a bowl.
Fry the onions in the rest of the oil for 5 minutes until soft.
Add the mushrooms and stir in the flour.
2. Return the beef and juice, then stir in the stock,
stout and hearbs.
Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
Cool. Preheat oven to 220.
Roll out the pastry and cut out 4 ovals to fit pie dishes.
3. Cut pastry strips and press around the edges.
Divide the filling between the dishes.
Brush the edges with water, cover with
lids and make a hole in the center.
Bake for 40 min.
