Whole fish (preferably karimmen/pearl spot fish)-2
Onion-2 small sliced
Ginger-1 tspn crushed
Garlic-1tspn crushed
Green chillies-5 sliced
Small onion-10 nos crushed finely
Tomato-1 chopped
Red chilli powder-3/4tspn
Coriander powder-1 tspn
Turmeric powder-1/4tspn
Fenugreek powder-1/4tspn
Kodumpuli-2-3 pieces( soaked in hot water for 10 mints )
Thick coconut milk-1- 1 1/2 cup
Curry leaves
Salt
Oil

For marination

Red chilli powder-1tspn
Coriander powder-1 tspn
Pepper powder-3/4 tspn
Turmeric powder-1/2 tspn
Garlic paste-1 tspn
Salt

1. Make deep cuts in fish and marinate them with ingredients listed above.Keep for 15 mints.
Then fry them on both sides till they are half cooked.Remove from fire and keep aside.

2. Saute crushed ginger,garlic ,small onions and green chillies in the same oil used for frying fish.Saute till the raw smell goes.Then add onion and continue sauting till they turn golden brown.
Add tomato and saute till they become soft.
Then add red chilli,coriander and turmeric,pepper and fenugreek powders and saute till the raw smell of masala goes.
Add kodumpuli ( along with water used for soaking).Mix well and add thick coconut milk.Sprinkle enough salt,cover and cook in high flame till the gravy boils.

3. Then add fried fish pieces and curry leaves.Swirl the pan once till the fish pieces are coated with gravy.(don't use spoon ).Cook for 15 more mints in low flame.
Serve hot with rice/kappa
